So, yesterday evening with the river at 5.3m the flood defences were finally breached and it was a very tranquil affair. The barriers didn’t actually fail, water just started spilling over the top of them like an bath that was overflowing.25 February, 2020
At 5.2m the River Severn is now pretty much in full flood although it hasn’t peaked yet. Impossible to get into town by crossing in Bewdley so thought I’d ride out to Arley and try crossing there instead. connect.garmin.com/activity/4589198229It’s usually a 5 minute walk into town but with the bridge closed it became a 13 mile ride to cross the river using the footbridge at Arley. Or 5 miles using the bypass bridge which I did on the way back.
The latest expectation is for the river to peak at around 5.5m tomorrow lunchtime. If that’s the case the temporary flood defences at Beales Corner will be breached before the day is out.
