Two seasons in one day today. Lovely sunny ride up to Route Napoleon via Bargemon to watch the Tour de France followed by a very wet ride home over Col de Valferriere in a hailstorm. Kay followed me up to RN – 18 miles before she caught me. So nearly made it up there before her.

Head cold for last couple of days so good to get back out on my bike again today with Dave for a ride up to Mons and on to St Cezaire for lunch with wives and grandkids/ Nice ride back through Le Tignet too despite the rainstorm. Drenched.

Nice late afternoon cafe ride over Col de Saint-Arnoux to Bargemon with Dave followed by a ride up to Col d’Avaye for good measure.

20 August, 2020

My annual ride up to Col de Cornille and across to Gourdon returning to Seillans through the perfume town of Grasse. Close to 70 miles and almost 2,000m of climbing with around 75% of it completed in the first third of the ride.

Col de Cornille near Andon and the ski resort of Audibergue. To reach it from Seillans via Fayence and Mons it’s pretty much 23 miles of steady climbing albeit with a couple of short descents to break things up a bit.

17 August, 2020

First ride up to Mons this year and after a hot and sweaty 16k ascent my reward, give or take a couple of rises, was a 20k descent all the way down through Montauroux to the main Grasse – Draguignan road.

16 August, 2020

Sunday morning ride down to Frejus via Bagnols-en-Forêt returning via Les Adrets-de-l’Estérel with a bit of a dog-leg up to Tanneron for the view and Montauroux to extend the ride so Dave could hit his first 100k – the hard way.

Happy days with Dave in Tanneron. Chapeau for your first 100k ride today – done the hard way with 1,600m of climbing.

And today the real climbing begins with a ride over Col de Saint-Arnoux to Bargemon and then up to Col de Bel Homme, Col de Clavel, and finally Col de Val Ferrière. The view from Col de Bel Homme is truly spectacular but sadly no goats today.

If you find yourself near Bargemon – bike or no bike – I thoroughly recommend a trip up Col de Bel Homme, the view from the road up is spectacular. If you decide to cycle up it’s a pretty constant 6% and not too long at around 8k, when you see the goats you’re almost there!

Another nice route today where I’m never far from home. Quiet rolling road out to Brovès en Seillans and up to Saint-Paul-en-Forêt, around Terre Blanche Golf Resort, and then a climb up to Callian and Col d’Avaye before dropping back down through Fayence.

So, the travel corridor from France to the UK closes on Saturday morning and I’m going to have to self-isolate for a couple of weeks when I get home, but quite frankly, it’s worth it for views like this.

Just love cycling the roads around Fayence and first ride out this year was a favourite route of mine. Over Col de Saint-Arnoux to Bargeman before dropping down to Callas and then back home along the Draguignan road via Fayence.

Another nice ride out from Rennes-les-Bains today including the infamous Gorges de Galamus complete with very low walls and very long drops. connect.garmin.com/activity/5369400766
